In the first half of the 19th century, the weavers of Gavray and Hamby produced and distributed wool and linen tapestries which were use to decorate bed-alcoves. These canvases are painted freehand with glue paint, on a red or black background, with naive or stylize floral motifs in blue, yellow, white, red or green.
